What is Detoxification?

Detoxification is the process of removing or counteracting toxic substances (toxins) which impair quality of health and length of life.
The word toxin is derived from the Latin word toxicus meaning poison.

We are the product of our genes interacting with the environment in which they reside. Although we cannot change our genes, we can modify how they are expressed in regard to health or illness by removing or reducing factors which impair quality of health and length of life. Such factors include toxins, electromagnetic pollution, maladaptive attitudes, and emotions such as anger, etc. Toxicity by strict definition involves the presence of toxins such as pesticides and certain heavy metals like mercury.

How do we remove the bad stuff?

Detoxification is the removal or reduction of toxic obstacles to attaining optimal function and repair. Biochemical toxicity may be reduced in many ways.

Dietary fiber may hasten excretion of toxins from the intestinal tract. Exercise, sauna and mineral baths help expel toxins out through the skin. Intravenous and oral chelation therapy remove toxic heavy metals such as lead from the body by introducing into the body substances which bind such metals and exit the body via the urine or stool.

At Dayton Medical we provide Intravenous (IV Treatments)and oral phosphatidylcholine and glutathione may be useful in removing organic poisons such as solvents and pesticides. Killing or counteracting toxin producing infectious organisms such as pathogenic bacteria and fungi also reduces toxicity.

Organs of detoxification such as the liver may be supported with various natural substances such as milk thistle and lipoic acid, so they function better. Milk thistle, resveratrol, green tea and/or lipoic acid may be administered orally or intravenously. A detoxification diet may be prescribed to reduce stress on detoxifying organs, liver included. Detoxification diets are relatively toxin free and generally involve increased fluids to flush out toxins. Foods such as cilantro and garlic help remove toxic metals.

Detoxification may also involve energy therapies in the form of ozone, acupuncture, homeopathy, and infrared heat. Conscious and subconscious mind therapies are available to address disturbing thoughts, emotions, and habits which impair well-being and indirectly aid detoxification. Being the mind affects the body and vice versa addressing either benefits the other. Health practitioners with special experience and expertise in mind-body therapy augment the detoxification process.

The bottom-line is that Detoxification is imperative for attaining and sustaining high-quality!
